Exciting times in Kuala Lumpur as WOLO Mont Kiara KL celebrates its Grand Opening, marking a new chapter for the city. Shma is proud to be the landscape architecture partner for this new hotel under Design Hotels™ and the Marriott Bonvoy.
WOLO Mont Kiara KL introduces a refreshing, design-forward hospitality experience, fun, vibrant, and full of character. With its newly completed 60-storey tower, the project represents a bold evolution in elevating the group’s luxury landscape. This property brings a distinct narrative, unique originality, and a style of ownership that stands apart from typical luxury hotels.
As landscape designers, we believe every site carries its own story. Our approach begins with understanding that the geology and ecology of Kuala Lumpur are not only physical conditions but also the soul of the city.
We think through the lens of WOLO to explore how to design its spaces. Our design blurs the line between nature and art, using natural elements as artistic media and cultural references as inspiration for patterns, textures, and spatial rhythms. The landscape becomes a narrative, telling stories and inviting visitors to experience beauty as an immersive, living gallery.
This vision led to our concept, “Curated Nature to Live Once,” which unites inspirations from geology, ecology, and local culture into a cohesive design. By blending these elements, we created a unique landscape where people can experience and connect with a carefully crafted environment.
The concept encourages exploration, reflection, curiosity, and well-being. Native ecology played a key role; lush foliage, layered canopies, seasonal flowering species, and distinctive bark textures convey authenticity and dynamic character. Close collaboration with the design team allowed us to refine our approach while embracing new insights and contextual limitations.
Ultimately, we believe a landscape is more than a space; it’s a living environment. It supports biodiversity, fosters social interaction, nurtures well-being, and evolves alongside its community.
