This event was a workshop designed to train and empower “The Makers”—individuals driving the development of creative economy districts. It aimed to equip them with the knowledge and understanding needed for effective creative urban development, under the umbrella of the Thailand Creative District Network project, specifically for Pattani’s creative economy district.

Mr. Yossapon shared insights on revitalizing waterfront areas to meet community needs and solve urban challenges. He discussed how to bring life back to neglected riverfronts, ensuring that development enhances, rather than destroys, these vital spaces. Emphasizing rivers as valuable assets with future potential, he highlighted participatory development, with people at its heart, as the key to achieving sustainable outcomes.
He also addressed sustainable climate adaptation approaches such as water and air purification, stormwater management, resilience to extreme weather, and the use of recycled water for irrigation, all demonstrated through Shma’s real-world projects.
He also presented successful case studies, both local and international, demonstrating how they can be adapted to specific contexts. Mr. Yossapon stressed that development must consider the local context and community needs; otherwise, it risks becoming destructive.
Shma was pleased to have been part of this meaningful step toward more inclusive and sustainable urban development, and we look forward to seeing Pattani and other cities across Thailand continue to grow more inclusively and sustainably.
